About Knit Along Now
We all must learn the basic skills when we begin knitting. Once we know how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and cast-off, we are on the launchpad to the knitting universe. The possibilities are vast. The learning never ends, if you don’t want it to. From cables and lace to double-knitting and sideways sweater construction, the adventure is yours to choose. Learn to follow patterns (not always a simple venture!), learn some formulas for making basic sweaters without a pattern or trek into the wilderness of freeform knitting. Which kind of knitter are you today? Which might you be tomorrow? Knit Along Now is about facilitating that discovery. From classes to knitting along a pattern together to designing together, there’s a place for every type of knitter and the expertise to help you grow into the knitter you are.
About Your Host
I’m Allison and Knit Along Now is my physical and virtual knitting studio offering instruction, design along projects and knit alongs. I have been knitting for over 30 years and teaching and designing for at least 20 of those years. Perhaps you can tell that I love to knit. I’ve been known to wax (maybe not always so) eloquently about all the things I enjoy about knitting. From the creativity to the connection to farmers and animals to the relaxing, meditative experience it can be, knitting has been a consistently enjoyable and healing activity in my life.
More than any of that, what I value the most is knitting with others. There is a sort of magical experience of gathering with people and knitting together over time. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s lively. There may be celebration or sadness. There may be light banter or passionate discourse. Through it all, there is the knitting. Each person sitting and transforming string into garments or blankets or toys or art. Each project has a story. Each knitter has their passage through the craft. We aren’t just knitting sweaters. We’re knitting a fabric of community. For all the sweaters, hats, scarves, afghans and toys I’ve knitted and seen knitted, the most wondrous product of the knitting are the relationships. In this way, knitting has enriched my life beyond measure.
Being a natural born sharer of all that I know, I adore teaching. I am fascinated by the different ways in which people learn. I am excited for each “aha” moment that every knitter experiences when they realize, “I can do this!” I’m just as happy to teach a brand new knitter as I am to teach an advanced technique to a seasoned knitter. If a student feels encouraged or inspired or emboldened in any way, it leaves me giddy.
